The Ultimate Chicks Home Improvement Project
25 Nov
This year, I’m thankful for the newest addition to my house . . . my access to draft beer! That’s right everyone, I now have a kegerator. So I thought I’d let everyone know how surprisingly simple this home improvement was, in the hopes of encouraging other chicks to feather their nests in a similar manner. My husband and I have long discussed our wish for a kegerator – it wasn’t an issue of knowledge, more just our lack of actually doing it. A while back, my office upgraded its refrigerator, and I gladly laid claim to the old one and it came to live in our garage. What followed was then several months of discussion about how many taps we wanted, what type of faucets we should get, etc. Finally, we got around to ordering the equipment. I won’t lie, it was definitely an investment – not exactly cheap, but also not outrageously expensive. (more…)

When my parents drove cross-country recently, I asked for what seemed a logical souvenir – beer from all points west of Virginia. They obliged, coming back to Virginia with a couple cases of beer I’d never tried before. First one to be reviewed is Stevens Point Brewery Cascade Pale Ale, from Stevens Point, Wisconsin (which according to Google is roughly in-between Green Bay, Wisconsin and Minneapolis, Minnesota). Apparently Stevens Point Brewery has quite a bit of history and is the fifth oldest continuously operating brewery in the US and was founded in 1857, with name and ownership changes over the years.
If you couldn’t tell from my Oktoberfest post, I love fall, and fall beers. Especially pumpkin beers (true confession: I actually love just about anything pumpkin). Every year, in early September, I head to my favorite beer shops to pick up a season’s worth of pumpkin beer. I usually grab some of my favorites, and check out new ones to try. The owner of my tried and true beer store recommended Schlafly to me, saying it was his favorite. I was a little dubious, as his second favorite is one I’m not a fan of. But I decided to give it a try, and I am very happy I did. This is the first Schlafly beer I’ve tried, and I’ll definitely be looking for additional styles.
