Chicks Love Beer

Dominion was nice enough to send me a few bottles of their Octoberfest to sample because they are a great company. For good or bad,  that got bought up by a huge conglomerate. So while I like to reminisce about the Old Dominion Brewery that we loved to frequent, I know that at the end of the day, they still make great beer.

Dominion does a great job of making craft beer that is still accessible for most drinkers. Their Octoberfest is no exception. It pours a nice, big head that stuck around even after the beer had settled. The beer is a deep copper color.

The aroma was a little heavy on the alcohol but also presented hints of toasted malt. (more…)

Left Hand’s contribution to the season is their own Oktoberfest Marzen Lager. I really do enjoy Left Hand brews, but I felt like the Oktoberfest was a bit of a letdown. It just didn’t have the “oomph” I was looking for in this style of beer.

The beer poured a deep copper color and the head was plentiful but settled quickly.You can see the thin layer of head in the photo.

The aroma presented a little yeasty with definite overtones of malt. The beer had a nice taste of toasted malt and didn’t linger long. It wasn’t bitter at all. (more…)

This was the second pumpkin ale I tried this season – “Post Road” Pumpkin Ale from Brooklyn Brewery. My husband and I both tried the Post Road and were in agreement – not our favorite.

The Post Road is a nice amber color, and has a little more clarity than the Punkin. There was very little head after being poured and almost no head after settling although it did leave a slight  lacing on the glass.

The aroma was really spicy with hints of allspice, cinnamon but almost no pumpkin scent at all. (more…)
